What does it mean to be human? In 18th century England, Victor Frankenstein grows up precociously interested in science, and during his university studies becomes interested in the idea of re-creating and reanimating a dead body using a combination of chemistry, alchemy and electricity. His success at "creating a man" sets off a chain of events that include the deaths of his loved ones, the aborted creation of a "mate" for his monster, and finally, torments of guilt, conscience, and a wish for revenge that drives Victor to chase his creation all the way to the frozen wastes of the Artic Circle for a showdown.
