A story of love and marriage and keenly observed social mores set in rural Victorian England. The Bennets have five daughters to find husbands for, and then of course the girls have hearts and minds of their own. Among the prospects are Charles Bingley and Fitzwilliam Darcy, both wealthy aristocrats, and George Wickham, a handsome militia officer, as well as Mr. Collins, a clergyman who stands to inherit big through a quirk in the law. Land, inheritance, social position and "the suitable match" as well as real friendship and love shift and swirl among the characters as they conduct the decorous social life of the times and try to find their way to happiness.
